Whole Young Duckling

Whole Young Duckling

First introduced in the 1870s from China, the American Pekin is known for its quick maturation and tasty, tender meat. Many farmers on Long Island and elsewhere once raised this versatile waterfowl, giving the breed its popular name, “Long Island duck.” Over time it was often bred lighter and leaner to meet the modern tastes of Americans more used to delicately flavored and leaner chicken. At present the industry has shrunk down to a few notable producers. Of these remaining breeders, Pelleh has selected Joe Jurgielewicz & Son, known for their faithfulness to the original heritage breed characteristics of robust flavor and generous layer of versatile fat. Their free-roaming flocks enjoy a diet of corn, soybeans and pure well water, and are raised antibiotic and hormone free.
